“My Father”

An interview with Levon Javakhyan was recently published in the “Companion” magazine. The readers of the magazine were interested in who Levon Javakhyan is. Primarily, I’d like to say that he is my dad. Sometimes he does such things that my family and I get angry at. For example, he made us his stories’ heroes. I remember once my father decided to describe a usual morning in our family. When he finished the first page of his story, I became interested. What was he writing so enthusiastically? I asked him to allow me to read his writing. At first my father said he couldn’t read an unfinished story. After reading it I understood why he was contradicting himself.
In the story I spend my day incessantly crying and asking for something. My brother liked the beginning of the story and asked my father to continue it. But after struggling a lot I reached my aim and the story was left unfinished.
My father is a scatterbrain. Maybe all writers are like him. He likes to ask many questions but the answers don’t interest him.
I remember another story from my childhood. Before we went to bed my brother talked my father into telling us the story of “Gikor” by Hovhannes Tumanyan. It was our favorite composition. My father began to read and every time we reached the moment when Gikor’s father came to his sick son, I began to cry, and “Gikor” was left unfinished.
Often I am asked if I want my father to have another profession. I don’t know what to answer, because I’m sure that if he were a historian or an accountant he would write.
